Becoming your own boss and following your dream of becoming a freelance web designer is worth the investment of your time and energy! Unfortunately, with great freedom comes great responsibility, and strangely, many web designers just don't know how to handle not clocking in at work. Some start their projects full speed ahead, only to tire out after the first week. Productivity is an integral part of making ends meet as a designer, and there are ways that you can produce more work with the effort you already put in.

It all comes down to setting daily goals for yourself that you know you will be able to accomplish. It's not enough to simply set the goal, but to also come up with a time table and break down what you're going to be doing throughout the day. If you don't hold yourself accountable, no one else will! Additionally, you can download a number of apps to help you with productivity such as OmniFocus and Todoist.

If you're swamped with work (which is a good thing), make sure you straighten out your priorities. There is always going to be one job that is more important than all of the others and should be completed first. Figure out which job that is, and work on it before moving on to other projects.

Work on your projects when you feel most alert and productive. Since you're going to be your own boss and work from home, you have complete freedom as to when you can proactively work on the tasks at hand. Some web designers find that working at night is the best time of the day as most people are asleep and there are less disturbances to worry about.

Do you get distracted easily? If so, it's important for the sake of your productivity that you identify these distractions and know how to stay away from them. Sometimes, your family may get in the way of your work. If this is an ongoing problem for you, it may make sense to set up a separate garden office away from your house.

Never just jump ahead into a project without making a plan and drafting your ideas. Some designers find it helpful to use their computer to jot down ideas, but for others, good old fashioned paper and pen are the best resources.

Lastly, it makes sense to follow a strict schedule when it comes to accepting work the way the guys at website design New Zealand do. A lot of web designers are happy to get a lot of projects going at one time, but if you don't have the time to finish each one, it can interfere with your work ethic and the satisfaction of your customers. Set a schedule each week and stick to it! By figuring out how many hours you can reasonably spend working with web design, you not only save yourself the trouble of overworking, but you also become significantly more productive with the projects you turn in.
